Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences at IOCB Prague 2024

This year's Week of the Czech Academy of Sciences will take place at IOCB from 4 to 9 November and we are preparing a rich program for the public.

Most of it is in Czech (see the program) but part of it is reserved for English-speaking visitors. On Friday, we organize science excursions for schools in English. On Saturday, during the Open House Day, we can provide English commentary during individual excursions.

Monday, 4 November

10–11:00 | Lecture: Women in Science – What do we know? (Štěpán Jurajda)

Speaker: Prof. Ing. Štěpán Jurajda, Ph.D., DSc., CERGE-EI

Abstract: Why are there so few women in science? We will start with general lessons (from labor economics) on what drives the labor-market participation of educated women. Next, we will discuss the evolution of the participation of women in science, and nature vs. institutions/social norms as driving factors. Finally, we will review causal (as opposed to descriptive) evidence on policies that increase the participation of women in science, esp. in STEM fields.

The lecture is organized by the Women in Science at IOCB initiative.

Reservation can be found here.
