Researchers at IOCB Prague led by Josef Michl have introduced a group of dyes with potential applications in solar energy conversion and molecular electronics.
These dyes, derivatives of cibalackrot, were synthesized for singlet fission, a vital process in solar energy conversion. This research shows the compounds exhibit favorable properties for singlet fission, but challenges arise from controlling their crystal packing, as different polymorphs favor alternative photophysical processes.
Further research is needed in crystal engineering to further enhance the singlet fission performance.
