Tuesday, 12 November 2019 – Science and Society (afternoon block)
A block of lectures and tours of laboratories specializing in the practical function of science in today’s society. The first lecture will examine the path of drug discovery, from the very first idea of a single scientist to the sale of an effective drug in the pharmacy. The second lecture will focus on science as an investment opportunity as well as on the matter of potential risks in scientific research.

Wednesday, 13 November 2019 – Viruses, Bacteria, and Science (afternoon block)
A block of lectures and tours focusing on viral and bacterial research at our institute. We’ll explain how antibiotics and antivirotics work, what causes resistance to them, why there’s still no drug for certain viral and bacterial illnesses, and how our scientists are responding.

Thursday, 14 November 2019 – Open House Day for schools
Tours and lectures for students 13 years of age and up (from 8th grade elementary school).
Friday, 15 November 2019 – Special program for groups of deaf students
Tours and lectures for groups of deaf students. Groups should register no later than October 15.
Saturday, 16 November 2019 – Open House Day for the general public
Throughout the Open House Day at IOCB, there will be tours and presentations, during which our research groups will describe their projects as well as some of the interesting instruments and technologies they use. These presentations are intended for visitors 13 years of age and up, and advance registration is not necessary. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., we’ll have interpreters on hand for deaf visitors translating into the Czech sign language or written Czech.
