The National Institute of Virology and Bacteriology joins the Global Virus Network

The National Institute of Virology and Bacteriology (NIVB), a project funded from the European Union’s program NextGenerationEU and coordinated by IOCB Prague, has been accepted as a new member of the prestigious Global Virus Network (GVN), connecting leading scientific institutions specializing in virology research from over 40 countries worldwide. This membership represents a unique opportunity to enhance international collaboration, share expertise, and engage in global projects aimed at combating viral threats and improving preparedness for future pandemics.

GVN includes more than 80 Centers of Excellence and affiliate institutions across the globe. The network’s mission is to bring together top experts on human and animal viral infections, foster innovation, share knowledge, and educate the next generation of virologists.

According to Dr. Zdeněk Hostomský, the director of the new center of excellence at the GVN and the principal investigator of NIVB, this membership offers opportunities across all levels of the scientific community.

“Young scientists will have the chance to participate in GVN’s training programs and pursue internships at partner institutions, while our experienced researchers will contribute to teaching and sharing their expertise. Our state-of-the-art laboratories are also open to colleagues from other GVN institutions. We believe that collaboration and the passing of experience between generations are key to ensuring society’s preparedness for future pandemics and other global challenges,” says Zdeněk Hostomský.
