A new study by Michal Hocek Group at IOCB Prague was published in Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry. The scientists synthesized a new nucleotide labelled with thiophene-linked BODIPY and constructed the corresponding labelled oligonucleotides through primer extension.
The fluorescence lifetime of these probes changes with the viscosity of their environment and thus they can serve as sensors responding to DNA hybridization, mismatches or protein-DNA binding.
