IOCB Postdoctoral fellowships
Each year, IOCB Prague offers up to ten postdoctoral positions in chemistry and biochemistry through the IOCB Fellowship program. Fellowships are awarded for one year, with the possibility of applying for a one-year extension. The application deadlines are twice a year, on 1 April and 1 October.
The institute offers a competitive gross monthly salary of CZK 60,000, plus compulsory employer-paid health and social insurance contributions. The salary is subject to income tax, and full health insurance coverage is included as part of the fellowship. Additionally, travel expenses of up to CZK 50,000 per year for attending conferences and workshops are covered. Depending on availability, temporary accommodation in one of the guest houses of the institute or the Czech Academy of Sciences may be provided at an affordable rent.
The selection committee considers applications from highly qualified candidates from reputable institutions in Czechia and abroad, supported by original publications in respected journals and a strong research project. For Czech applicants, international experience is highly advantageous. Applicants must be no more than seven years beyond the award of their first doctoral degree. This limit can be extended in the case of maternity or parental leave (18 months per child).
Application, extension, reporting
Interested researchers should first contact a prospective supervisor at IOCB and agree on a research project before submitting their application.
The project proposal should be discussed with the supervisor but must be prepared solely by the applicant. Two letters of recommendation are required from individuals well-acquainted with the applicant’s academic work and abilities.
The applicant must submit the application package, except for the letters of recommendation, as a single PDF file to the prospective group leader, who then forwards the package to fellowship @ uochb.cas.cz. The letters of recommendation must be sent separately and confidentially by their authors directly to fellowship @ uochb.cas.cz.
Fellowship recipients are required to submit a final report to the fellowship committee within one month after the end of the fellowship. If they leave IOCB Prague, the report must be submitted before the end of the employment contract. The report should include copies of any papers published during the fellowship or, if no papers have been published, a summary of results and a draft of a planned publication. The final report must be sent to fellowship @ uochb.cas.cz as a single PDF file by the group leader.
Requests for an extension must be submitted during the tenure of the fellowship, always on one of the regular deadlines (1 April or 1 October). The extension request must be sent as a single PDF file by the group leader at fellowship @ uochb.cas.cz.
